Mandate

The Bermuda Government established the Department of Energy to take the lead in meeting both the challenges of Bermuda's own need for energy and our responsibility to set an example for the rest of the world.

The Department of Energy's strategic Goals are to:

  • Reduce fossil fuel dependency
  • Ensure a secure energy supply, in terms of both quantity and cost
  • Encourage Greenhouse gas emissions reductions related to energy

  Solar Photovoltaic Rebate Initiative

The combined effect of many small-scale residential renewable energy systems has the potential to contribute toward a meaningful amount of non-fossil fuel based energy for Bermuda. As a result, the Department of Energy has created the Solar Photovoltaic Rebate Initiative to encourage the Bermudian homeowner to install solar photovoltaic technology. For more information on this new initiative, please view the information pack.

  Bermuda Energy Green Paper

The Energy Green Paper is one of the Department of Energy's first steps in developing Bermuda's National Energy Policy. The Bermuda Government therefore considers it vital to have broad public consultation to accompany the Energy Green Paper. All interested parties are welcome to join this consultation process by submitting comments and suggestions on the Energy Green Paper to energygreenpaper@gov.bm.

Buying a New Appliance?

Many appliances last for over a decade, so when you purchase a new model you are committing to many years of energy expenditure. Modern high-efficiency appliances may be able to save you thousands of dollars of electricity over the lifetime of the unit, so check out the Energy Efficiency Fact Sheets available on this website before you buy.

In addition to reducing your energy bills, buying more efficient appliances may also reduce your impact on the environment caused by the burning of fossil fuels to provide your electricity.
