Welcome to the website of the Bermuda Archives! The Bermuda Archives officially celebrates its thirtieth birthday this year, commemorating as it does the passage of the Bermuda Archives Act 1974. Yet our rich holdings may not have survived to 1974 without the pioneering work of Governor J.H. Lefroy who, during his period in office here in the 1870s, collected and published the Island’s early records. Now well over a hundred years later, the Bermuda Archives is pleased to facilitate access to its holdings to a much larger audience.
As the official repository of the records of the Government of Bermuda, the Bermuda Archives safeguards and makes accessible the important documents of modern administrations, as well as those of the past. We encourage you to visit the Bermuda Archives and explore the varied resources, which the Archives holds in trust for present and future generations of Bermudians.
